Switching Role

I am a repeat CFE writer. Previously my role on Day 2 was assurance, however, since I do not have much audit experience I am planning to switch my in-depth elective to Tax.

Is this a good idea?

Hi Kate,

I am also taking assurance as my elective and I am working as an accountant in the Public sector. May I know which sector do you work If you are not working in public firm?

I originally planned to write Tax role last year but switched to Assurance in August. Unless you have a lot of Tax experience, stay with Assurance. Tax is brutal.

Hi Abeer,

The volume of information related to tax made it really challenging for me. In some Day 2 practice case in Capstone 2, I wouldn't even know where to begin. It was really frustrating. I switched to Assurance too late to assure myself of passing but at least it wasn't as taxing as tax.

Thanks Michael. That is exactly what I felt after I looked at a sample CFE Tax Role case on the CPA website. Definitely going for Assurance.

Tax role is also not easy. In my opinion and with what I've seen so far l will advise you stay with Assurance and if you want to switch, l will recommend you go for PM.
